Air Conditioning Service Taigum

Most of what shortens a system’s life is skipped servicing. Filters, coils and drains clog, the unit works harder, running costs climb and the compressor wears early. An annual service before summer is the cheapest thing you can do for an air conditioner, and it keeps manufacturer warranties intact.

A service is not just a filter clean. We clean filters and both coils, flush the condensate drain, read refrigerant pressures and check for leaks, test the electrical connections and capacitors under load, confirm the thermostat against actual output, and check the temperature split before we leave. You are told what we found and what is worth watching. Full detail on our air conditioner servicing page.

Air Conditioning Repairs Taigum

Systems fail in the heat, which is exactly when you need them. We take breakdown calls 24/7 and carry common parts, so a lot of faults are sorted on the first visit. Typical calls are units icing up, water coming through a ceiling, a system tripping the breaker, or an outdoor fan that has stopped.

If a repair is not worth the money on an ageing system we will say so rather than take the work. On systems over ten years old running R22, a compressor failure or a major gas leak usually means replacement wins on running costs alone. See emergency repairs for how the callout works.

Air Conditioning Installation Taigum

On the estate side of Taigum most homes already have the rough-in, a dedicated circuit and a slab for the outdoor unit, so installation is quicker and cheaper than it would be on an older house. What we check first is whether the provision actually matches what you want: builder rough-ins are commonly sized for a smaller system than the owner ends up asking for.

On the 1980s and 1990s brick homes the job is a retrofit, and the roof space and switchboard decide what is realistic. We look at both before quoting.

Air Conditioning Repairs Taigum

We take breakdown calls 24/7 and carry common parts. On estate homes the faults we see most are control and zoning problems rather than mechanical failures, because the equipment is relatively young. On the older brick stock it is the opposite: compressors, capacitors and gas leaks on systems that have done their time.

Builder-Installed Systems and What They Miss

A system specified during construction is chosen against a build budget, not against how the house is actually lived in. The two recurring consequences are capacity that was adequate on paper and is not in practice, and zoning laid out for the floor plan rather than for which rooms get used together.

Both are often fixable without replacing equipment. Rebalancing the zones, correcting return air, or adding a single head to the room that never copes is usually cheaper than a new system, and we will say so when that is the case.

How Close to the Bay Is Close Enough to Matter?

Taigum sits five to six kilometres inland of Moreton Bay, which is far enough that salt corrosion is a much smaller factor than it is in Deagon or Sandgate. For most Taigum installs a standard condenser is appropriate and a coastal-grade unit is a premium you do not need to pay.

The exception is exposure rather than distance: a unit on an open eastern elevation with nothing between it and the bay will weather faster than one tucked on a sheltered side. We will tell you which side of that line your install sits on rather than upselling the coastal variant by default.

Two Generations of Housing in One Suburb

Taigum is unusual in that two quite different housing generations sit side by side. Much of the suburb is brick from the 1980s and 1990s, and the systems that went in with those homes are now at the end of their life. Next to it is the newer estate development around Fitzgibbon, built in the last fifteen years with ducted rough-in and a dedicated circuit already provided.

The two need opposite conversations. On the older brick stock the question is what survives a replacement: whether the existing ductwork is worth keeping and whether the switchboard has capacity for a larger system. On the estate homes the equipment is newer but was specified to a builder’s price, so the complaints we hear are undersized units and zoning that was never set up properly rather than anything being broken.

The ground here is flat, so none of the afternoon-aspect problems that drive sizing in the hilly western suburbs apply. Sizing in Taigum is a more straightforward calculation, which makes an undersized system harder to excuse.

Air Conditioning Taigum: Common Questions

Do I need a coastal-grade air conditioner in Taigum?

Usually not. Taigum is five to six kilometres inland of the bay, far enough that salt corrosion is a much smaller factor than in Deagon or Sandgate. A standard condenser suits most installs here. The exception is an exposed eastern elevation with open ground toward the bay, and we will tell you if yours is one.

My estate home's system never cools the back rooms properly. Is it broken?

Often not. Builder-specified systems are chosen against a construction budget, and the usual causes are zoning laid out for the floor plan rather than how you live, or capacity that was adequate on paper. Rebalancing zones or correcting return air is frequently cheaper than new equipment.

Our home is from the 1990s. Can we keep the existing ductwork?

Sometimes. Duct from that era is often structurally sound but undersized for a modern head, and flex that has sagged between joists costs you airflow to the far rooms. We check the runs and tell you plainly whether they stay.

How quickly can you get to a breakdown in Taigum?

We run 24/7 breakdown callouts and Taigum is on our northern run, so same day is normal for urgent faults. Commercial sites on a maintenance agreement get priority.

Do you work on commercial sites around Taigum Square?

Yes. Retail tenancies and the offices around them run packaged units and splits far harder than a house does, and those sites suit scheduled maintenance with work done outside trading hours.

How much does air conditioning installation cost in Taigum?

A single back to back split system install is the cheapest option, and cost climbs with pipe run length, the number of heads and any electrical upgrade the switchboard needs. Ducted is priced on the number of zones and the roof space you are working with. We quote on site rather than over the phone, because those variables move the price more than the unit does.

How long does an installation take?

A straightforward back to back split system is usually a half day. Multi-head systems and anything needing a long pipe run or switchboard work run to a full day. Ducted is typically two to three days depending on the number of zones and how easy the roof space is to work in.
