Air Conditioning Service Tarragindi

Most of what shortens a system’s life is skipped servicing. Filters, coils and drains clog, the unit works harder, running costs climb and the compressor wears early. An annual service before summer is the cheapest thing you can do for an air conditioner, and it keeps manufacturer warranties intact.

A service is not just a filter clean. We clean filters and both coils, flush the condensate drain, read refrigerant pressures and check for leaks, test the electrical connections and capacitors under load, confirm the thermostat against actual output, and check the temperature split before we leave. You are told what we found and what is worth watching. Full detail on our air conditioner servicing page.

Air Conditioning Repairs Tarragindi

Systems fail in the heat, which is exactly when you need them. We take breakdown calls 24/7 and carry common parts, so a lot of faults are sorted on the first visit. Typical calls are units icing up, water coming through a ceiling, a system tripping the breaker, or an outdoor fan that has stopped.

If a repair is not worth the money on an ageing system we will say so rather than take the work. On systems over ten years old running R22, a compressor failure or a major gas leak usually means replacement wins on running costs alone. See emergency repairs for how the callout works.

Raised and Built-Under Homes

A large share of Tarragindi housing has been raised and built under, and that creates two spaces with completely different thermal behaviour in the one house. Downstairs is a concrete slab, partly below ground on a sloping block, and stays comparatively cool and stable. Upstairs is timber under a roof with little insulation and no eaves, and it swings hard with the sun.

Treating those two levels as one zone is the most common mistake we are called in to correct. Sized for the upstairs load, the downstairs rooms end up cold and clammy; balanced for downstairs, upstairs never keeps up in February. They want separate zones with quite different capacity, and on some houses they genuinely want separate systems.

Air Conditioning Installation Tarragindi

On character homes the install is mostly a routing problem. We work out where pipe and duct can actually run, where the outdoor unit can sit without creating a noise problem in a bedroom or a built-under living space, and whether the switchboard has capacity. On a renovated house with new wiring that is straightforward; on an original cottage it is the part that decides the quote.

Air Conditioning Repairs Tarragindi

We take breakdown calls 24/7 and carry common parts. On older character homes a recurring cause is electrical rather than mechanical: a system on a circuit that was marginal when it went in, tripping as the compressor ages and draws more on startup. That is worth diagnosing properly instead of replacing a unit that was never the problem.

Ridges, Gullies and Evening Heat

Tarragindi runs across ridges and gullies, and the two sit differently. Ridge houses catch the breeze and shed heat after sunset. The gully streets hold warm air into the evening, so the system is still working long after a ridge house has stopped. Dehumidification matters more in those pockets than raw capacity, which is an argument against the oversized unit that short cycles and leaves a room cold and damp.

Air Conditioning a Queenslander

Tarragindi is character housing country, and a timber Queenslander is a genuinely different job to a brick house. There are usually no eaves to speak of, so walls take direct sun for most of the day. The ceilings are tongue and groove or VJ boards that will not carry the weight of ductwork or a return air box wherever you would like to put them. And the roof space in an original cottage is often too shallow to run duct through at all.

None of that makes ducted impossible, it just means the route has to be worked out properly first. The usual answers are a bulkhead through the centre of the house, ductwork run in the subfloor on a highset home, or accepting that a well-placed multi-head split will do the job better and cost less than forcing ducted into a house that was not built for it. We will say which of those applies before quoting rather than after.

On the character streets there is also the question of where the outdoor unit can go. On a highset house the obvious spot underneath is often the one that creates noise in the room you have just built under there, and on a corner block it may need to sit where it is not visible from the street. Those decisions are easier made on site than on a plan.

Air Conditioning Tarragindi: Common Questions

Can you put ducted air conditioning in a Queenslander?

Often yes, but not always through the roof. Original cottages frequently have too little roof space, and VJ ceilings will not carry a return air box wherever you like. The usual answers are a bulkhead through the centre of the house or subfloor ductwork on a highset home. Sometimes a multi-head split does the job better for less money, and we will tell you when that is the case.

Our upstairs is hot and downstairs is freezing. Why?

Almost always one zone doing two jobs. In a raised and built-under house the downstairs slab is cool and stable while the upstairs timber swings with the sun. Sized for upstairs, downstairs over-cools; balanced for downstairs, upstairs never copes. They need separate zones with different capacity, and occasionally separate systems.

Where does the outdoor unit go on a highset house?

Underneath is the obvious spot and often the wrong one, because it puts noise into whatever room has been built under there. We look at the block, the prevailing breeze and the neighbouring windows before deciding, and on character streets also whether it will be visible from the front.

Our system keeps tripping the breaker. Is it failing?

Not necessarily. On older Tarragindi homes it is frequently a circuit that was marginal when the system went in, tripping as the compressor ages and draws more at startup. Worth diagnosing before replacing equipment that may be fine.

How quickly can you get to a breakdown in Tarragindi?

We run 24/7 breakdown callouts and Tarragindi is close in on our southern run, so same day is normal for urgent faults.

How much does air conditioning installation cost in Tarragindi?

A single back to back split system install is the cheapest option, and cost climbs with pipe run length, the number of heads and any electrical upgrade the switchboard needs. Ducted is priced on the number of zones and the roof space you are working with. We quote on site rather than over the phone, because those variables move the price more than the unit does.
